July 9, 2005 - Andrew Vontz Omnium for the Bicycle Village Project

With the biggest track events of the year occuring over the next six weeks, I was a bit surprised with the light turnout this week. Of course, many of the top Juniors who race at the Encino Velodrome are at Nationals (many of them bringing back medals!). But where was everyone else?

Many thanks to Andrew Vontz for sponsoring this event to raise awareness about the Bicycle Village Project. When the only other choice is walking, bicycles are a tool of development, improving access to farms, market, jobs, schools, and health care. Learn how you can make a real difference here:

Looking ahead to this weekend, we have our Sprinter's Dream Omnium. Ain't nothin' longer than 5-laps. I will post the official schedule in the next day or so, but it will feature Match Sprint, Keirin, 5-Lap Scratch, and possibly some 500-meter TT's and chariot races. So all of you sprinters who complain about not enough sprint tournaments (you're right), show up. Remember, under the new format one loss and you're out. It's time to hone your tactical sense! Strong attendence means there's demand. And if there's demand, I will include more sprint-oriented stuff on the calendar.
